Ron Davidson’s Sunderland
Ron spent 20 years working in industry, and the shipyards, factories and working people of the North East stayed with him all his life. When redundancy came, he painted what he had seen: Sunderland’s decline as a shipbuilding port. The Last Ships, the last ships built on the River Wear, became one of his best-known works, alongside Working on the Wear, Industrial Wear and Another Shift.
He painted the coast he grew up beside just as often: Roker Pier and the lighthouses, stormy skies over the sea, the docks, and the day Ark Royal came home. For years his paintings hung in Sunderland’s pubs too, as the pub signs he painted for Vaux Breweries.
Every painting is reproduced as a Giclée print from Ron’s original watercolour, in A4, A3 or A2, unmounted or mounted, and as an A5 card. Every order supports the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
